FDA Moves to Illegalize 7-OH, Can I Still Buy It?
While flying under the radar for far too long, 7-OH (7-Hydroxymitragynine) has been making headlines as the FDA moves for 7-OH to become a Schedule 1 controlled substance which would categorize it with drugs like heroin that have a high potential for abuse.
7-OH is 13 times more potent than morphine but yet it’s sold in our local gas stations in packaging that’s appealing to kids. It has been mind blowing to me that this has been on the shelves for years as it’s mismarketing and accessibility has destroyed thousands of lives.
While I do believe there needs to be more awareness brought to kratom being a highly addictive substance since it acts on the same mu-opioid receptors as 7-OH, I do agree with the FDA that it is the "lesser evil". If you are using 7-OH, you can still find it on shelves if it’s currently legal in your state. There were a handful of states ahead of the FDA in outlawing 7-OH products but it is still legal in most states.
The DEA is currently reviewing the recommendation from the FDA and they have the final authority on its scheduling and rulemaking process on the federal level. However, the FDA did issue warning letters to all distributors so you may start to see some of the stores you once bought 7-OH choosing to no longer carry the products.
A lot of our consumers are using this news as a launching pad to their quit. If you’re in the same boat this would be a great time to start tapering your use down and here’s our best advice to you for quitting 7-OH before it becomes illegal.
Prepare your body with the nutrients it needs to help it detox and recover quicker. QuitK supplements are packed with amino acids, adaptogens, herbs and vitamins with each ingredient specifically targeted at opioid-like withdrawals. We do recommend starting your supplement regimen 3 weeks before your quit to be most beneficial to your mind and body. You can learn more about each ingredient on our TikTok video HERE.
A very slow taper is the healthiest way to quit any psychoactive substance and to taper slow enough where you don’t feel the horrible withdrawals of 7-OH you may have to use a nail-filer to shave off milligrams before cutting down to half and quarter tabs. Or some consumers find it easier and much more affordable to switch to powder kratom and start tapering from there.
During this process, it’s crucial to find a support person. Many people’s 7-OH addiction is a secret and secrets hold power. By opening up to someone close to you it helps give away that power. I also had a customer tell me he found so much support by attending an AA meeting for his addiction and I thought that was a genius idea.
Try to keep busy during your quit. Many people will take work off and you should if you’re physically too ill, but I’d try to work if you can to help keep your mind off not using. It’s also important to get outside and move your body even if it’s just a short walk.
If you have gone cold turkey or plan to then make sure you have no remaining product that’s accessible to you as when something is as accessible as being in your home then it’s a lot easier to cave. It’s also extremely important to keep yourself hydrated and nourishing your body with healthy foods. If it at any time you feel like you need medical help, then please go to your doctor or emergency room.
I know it can be a scary thought that you may not have access to something you have become so dependent on but think of this as a blessing in disguise to help you find your light on the other side of this addiction!
